COVID19

Below you will find resources for SMA members and the general public regarding the COVID-19 crisis. Please check back to this website for updates from SMA as well as new research and press releases, as they come in.

SMA 2020 Annual Meeting: The SMA Leadership is paying close attention to the coronavirus, and we are discussing contingencies regarding the SMA 2020 Annual Meeting. We are far enough out that decisions don’t need to be made now, so we're continuing to plan a great conference. However, out of concern for the health and welfare of our members, we will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates when we have them.

Submissions Deadline Extended: The SMA 2020 submission deadline has been extended to May 11, 2020. Read the call for proposals here for more information.

Corporate Social Responsibility in the Time of COVID-19
A Familiar Face Helps Fight Coronavirus in Florida

In the face of the coronavirus epidemic, many organizations have stepped up to offer their assistance by repurposing their facilities to produce much-needed supplies.

One such organization is a familiar one for many SMA members. Some may remember 3 Daughters Brewing from the off-site activity at the 2015 SMA Annual Meeting in St. Pete Beach, FL. To help fill the booming demand for hand sanitizers, the brewery has started creating and bottling its own.

According to a recent Tampa Bay Times article, 3 Daughters has plans to work through the city and charity organizations to get their hand sanitizer to the public for free.

According to the article, brewery co-owner Leigh Harting said 3 Daughters’ Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau-certified chemist uses cleansing agents that are already in-house and a thickening agent to make the hand sanitizer, which contains 70 percent alcohol.
